Vertica again on HighLoad ++

Like last year , spoke at HighLoad ++ . This time my report went to the “Databases” section, I talked about which storage systems should be rationally used for multidimensional analysis of big data. There are no slides on the website of the organizers yet, as soon as they appear - I will add a link. In short, the presentation was built as follows:

Vertika was presented as one of the options, but I talked about it in more detail, showing how and at the expense of which architectural solutions it fits well with analytical tasks and overtakes all competitors. In my opinion, Vertika’s technical solutions are a kind of standard to which one can strive. Other options considered were: MySQL’s favorite with TokuDB + sharding, ParAccel (aka Amazon Redshift) and Hadoop Stinger , which we haven’t tried yet, but what they’ve already done or are going to look very promising. Well, and a number of others I just mentioned and gave the results of our comparative test of several different systems this year. Yes, this year we decided to look around, whether something better or at least comparable to Vertical in performance, but cheaper (in terms of license cost + hardware + administration and development) did not appear. Not yet found. The results of these surveys are partially included in the report.

As it seems to me, judging by the reaction of the hall, the performance was a success. Compared to the previous year, there were much more interesting questions from the audience, and there were good questions both on the content of the report and quite practical questions from those who also use Vertica or seriously think about it. I tried to answer everything, since my report was the last one, nobody backed up from behind and you could have a quiet conversation. If anyone has any questions or new ones - ask.

For those who do not really know what kind of animal this is - Vertika - there are two fairly detailed articles on Habré:
1. My last year's article: habrahabr.ru/company/lifestreet/blog/147254
2. And the detailed article of this year by the architect from Yota: habrahabr.ru/post/190740

PS We in our company have been successfully using Vertic for more than three years.
