In general, the event was incredibly pleasant, really worthy rivals from all over the world came. What is surprising, most of the finalists have long been professionally working in the field of security, many have their own business. All in suits, and I in a T-shirt and shorts :-D Accordingly, in terms of age, the players, too, surpassed me by 5-10 years.
Unlike the Moscow stage, here I was already not familiar with anyone in advance, and it was endlessly interesting to talk with people who are professionally engaged in information security, who are also really busy in many areas at once - they passed to the final.
The number of assignments was descending: there were almost 100 flags in the online tour, and there were about 40 qualifiers in Moscow. In the final there were 23 flags, of which, by the way, the last three were impossible to take :-) The joke from the organizers was before these three flags wrote something like "well, the next three tasks are protected by a product from Symantec, try to wag aha"
In the end, in 4 hours of play, I took 19 flags out of 20 solved.
Symantec came up with an unusual way to reward participants: in addition to the main prizes for 1, 2, 3, they also handed out small awards for all kinds of game achievements: first to take 5 flags, first to go to the next level, etc. He took everything except the awards for the first 5 flags - they were managed by the high-speed Italian Paolo Perrucci before them. He eventually took 3rd place.
In general, everything was done nicely and with love for the players. The hotel on the coast overlooking the sea, the competition in the exhibition complex, the award ceremony in a prestigious restaurant and interesting rivals. It will be remembered for a long time :-)
