Today (see the date of this post) it is fashionable to scare anyone with any kind of script-kiddisami or mother hackers who are picking up a big jackpot (although this has been spread for a very long time in separate communities, forums or irc channels, but this is a separate topic), and now he finally finally (!) crawled to marketing! “He” is a virus, a disease, a parasitic nature of a person or, more simply, a hack (in a global sense).
Marketing hack?
It is useless to conceal or hide what one day will burst out ... It is useful to find out
what this sacrament represents of itself today (a method for those who like to keep up with the times). Nobler - to be a visionary, and therefore feel and see, predict (at least for yourself), so to speak, what should one day break out and explode (camping) ... Blow up the world, network, society, a certain sphere, niche, community. Thom York, for example, does it in music. He writes down today what will be understood in 5-10 years (my humble opinion), well, or, at least, will live all these years, and it will be revealed, so the demand for it will increase!
By implicating ideas of the future into a product, you can probably get it so-called. self-reproducibility and lengthen validity term. Most likely this can even be calculated somehow, but I will not go into deep analytics or statistics. Of course, it happens that the product was originally conceived as a life-time-long valid, i.e. there is a demand for it throughout the life of the client, the user. But how to promote the product itself? How, by promoting it, not to lose users or customers and keep the level of demand graph?
')
So what is it?
Growth Hacking - breaking the growth of demand (for a product, service, etc.). A new-fashioned approach to the promotion and
marketing of young (
and sometimes always experienced) startups. And from classical
marketing as such, there is already little left in it ...
Here come into force such techniques as:
- product virality via (interactive) video or gamification
- promotion via bit- (or any other) -rerent (available, for example, for free downloads, introductory parts of the product as in the case of the book The 4-Hour Chef by Timothy Ferrissa)
- sending the product description (parts) or opinions about it to various niche forums / blogs / resources
- “Parasitism” of one service by means of another (history of airbnb promotion using craiglist; also see mashape.com )
- redoing or finishing a service or a
bad part of a large product (history of paypal promotion via ebay) - Web services or apps that link to each other (including through cross-domains) and / or offer separate parts of the application for a fee (for example, in-app purchases)
- promotion using crowdsourcing or crowdfunding and combinations, combinations, combinations ...
In general - the game on technology, analytics and engineering rather than marketing techniques.
Who was interested, I recommend, the book of Ryan Holiday (Ryan Holiday) Growth Hacker Marketing or the book of Eric Ries (Eric Ries): The Lean Startup .
The above ideas are mostly from there. By the way, it happens that digital October pleases with quite good (video) lectures on these topics.

What is a growth hacker?According to Ryan Holiday, 'Growth Hacking' is, first of all, a new unusual type of thinking (if literally: new mind-set - a new way of thinking).
By the way, I think 'Growth Hacking' closely borders or, at least, can depend on (good) storytelling.
But more about that another time ...
