Hi, Habr!
Exactly to the initiative to
support startups voiced by
deniskin , we in FRIA continue to acquaint the community with the topic of business incubators and accelerators. In the last article, we discussed in detail what is the
difference between business incubators and accelerators . Today - we will tell about where, in fact, to go.
To begin, let us briefly recall the main differences:
- The incubator supports startups at all stages of its development, the accelerator exists for discrete assistance that can ensure the development of the project in the shortest possible time;
- Accelerators mainly specialize in online projects and run by investment funds, incubators can support almost any undertaking;
- In the accelerator, there is usually a clear temporary development program, the observance of which is monitored by the mentor, and the incubator is based on the pattern of a large community of understanding people;
- The incubator will provide the office for rent or sublease, with the project does not take a share, but only a small fee (or maybe not even taken, if lucky). The incubator can only come with the idea - that is, at very early stages, and spend 1-3 years or more. The accelerator spends an average of 3 months, but already having an independent business that requires financial or intellectual injections.
Actually, it is very simple to choose: if you have an idea and money, but there is no command, you are in the incubator, and if you already have a prototype, but you need investments or mentoring, then you need an accelerator.

On the topic of differences, we even made a comic infographic (in addition to being serious, with robots and high techlomes - it is in the last post). Who guesses, and here mitboly and meatballs, that fellow.)
To try to understand how this concept originated, you must first look to the West, where incubators and accelerators have been around for several decades. The first of the modern-type accelerators was Paul Graham's Y Combinator - founded in 2005, he still remains one of the most famous, along with Techstars and Seedcamp. According to
Seed-DB , 566 projects have already passed through Y Combinator. There is nothing comparable in Russia yet, the only accelerator that can fight with YC (in the future), by the way, will be our IIDF accelerator - only 400 projects will pass through the offline version in three years, and twice as much if we consider the online version.
The movement came to Russia with a traditional delay, but it was accepted with enthusiasm - in 6 years more than a hundred different incubators and accelerators belonging to many production spheres (not just the Internet) appeared on the territory of the country. They are developed not only by the state, but also by private individuals: in almost every large city there are at least 2 incubators - one is urban and the second is from a large university.
We looked at many, many sources in which Russian incubators and accelerators are presented with varying completeness and compiled the most prestigious (probably!) Current list - it initially had exactly 165 institutions, both state and non-state.
PS Following the discussion in the comments here, on Facebook and other sites, the list has grown.)
Of course, it didn’t work out to find absolutely all working platforms and initiatives, so additions are welcome. In addition, it will be very interesting in the comments to hear those who have had experience with these sites and accelerators. If you think that you should add some more information to the list - welcome!
Soon we will tell and show something interesting, but more on that later.
We work!
