There are already 100 thousand editors in Russian Wikipedia.

Russian Wikipedia celebrates several anniversaries . On January 29, 2008, one hundred thousandth participant was registered in the project, the 230,000 article was written on the same day, and on January 30 the file with the number 55 555 was uploaded. Even on the Russian Internet, Wikipedia has already formally come out on top in terms of information volume and thematic coverage, while the English version has long been a real leader in this indicator among all English-language encyclopedias.

One hundred thousand editors is a big number, especially considering that both English-speaking and Russian-speaking Wikipedia opened in 2001. In fairness it should be noted that out of these one hundred thousand truly active (five or more edits per month) are no more than two thousand people: see the statistics on active wikipedists .

Among all Wikipedia language sections, the Russian section ranks 11th in the number of articles, 13th in terms of the number of participants, and fourth in terms of the quality of work on the articles (this is calculated by the editing intensity based on the editing statistics). Russian Wikipedia is on the 10th place for such an important indicator as the number of internal links (excluding redirections), which is a more honest way to compare total efforts than comparing the number of articles or database size. While maintaining growth rates, Russian Wikipedia should soon enter the top ten for all indicators.

The geography of the participants of the Russian section covers, in addition to Russia, the country of near and far abroad. Wikipedia members in different languages are found in person at local wikipreps .

Over the year (since January 2007), the number of articles has increased by almost 100 thousand. Constantly work is underway to improve their quality: 612 articles have already received the status of “good” and 205 - “elected” .

The threshold of ten thousand articles Russian Wikipedia overcame in December 2004, a little over two years after the opening. Creating the next ten thousand took just six months. In December 2005, Russian Wikipedia took the mark of 50,000 articles. A symbolic milestone of 100,000 articles was switched on August 16, 2006. At the end of 2006, Russian Wikipedia surpassed the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopaedic Dictionary (121,240 articles), becoming the largest encyclopedic publication in Russian.

By the way, besides textbook knowledge, from Wikipedia you can learn a lot of other interesting facts.
