Due to total NSA surveillance, the US economy could lose up to $ 35 billion

The PRISM scandal may undermine the US position in the global cloud services market. This is stated in the report of ITIF - a reputable American think tank in the field of information technology and innovation. Surveys conducted by the Cloud Security Alliance indicate that 10% of non-US companies have already abandoned some of the cloud services provided by US providers. The number of those who hesitate is several times greater - information about total Internet hacking by the American special services inspires fears in 56% of those polled. 36% of US companies said they had difficulty working with foreign clients.

In the next three years, according to optimistic estimates, US companies will lose $ 21.5 billion. According to the pessimistic estimate, the losses will amount to 35 billion. If today the United States is the undisputed leader in the global cloud services market with a share of 85%, then in 2016 this share could fall to 55%. The situation is worsened by the fact that cloud services are a very fast-growing market. Even a slight slowdown today will have more and more pronounced effects tomorrow.

Alert against American Internet companies did not appear yesterday - after the adoption of the Patriot Act in 2001, many began to talk about the threat to confidential data from the US special services. A year ago, before the Snowden revelations, this issue was raised in a report on information security and privacy of a department of the European Parliament. Information about the true extent of surveillance on the Internet for many could be the last straw.
