PicUntu 4.5 installer: an easy way to install Ubuntu on devices with Rockchip RK3188

Back in January, Habré published news about the new Linux distribution, PicUntu, intended for installing Ubuntu on devices with Rockchip RK3188 (mostly mini-PCs, TV boxes, etc.). Now there is a GUI installer, which allows you to install this distribution without any problems, which can be handled by not very experienced users.

PicUntu is based on Ubuntu 13.04 and uses lightweight Xfce. In basic applications, you can find a browser, text editor, console application. The distribution itself is lightened to a minimum, since usually the devices for which PicUntu is intended have very little internal memory. If there are not enough applications, you can always install GIMP, LibreOffice and other applications using Synaptic Package Manager.

Unfortunately, there is still no support for hardware video acceleration or Bluetooth in the current distribution. However, in devices like the T518 Android TV, for example, the processor power is enough to “pull out” the video as 720p HD.

According to those who have already familiarized themselves with the new distribution, the system works fairly quickly on TV-sticks, so for 50-80 dollars (this is the price of such devices) you can get a full-fledged PC. Of course, it’s hardly possible to do video editing on such a computer, however, office tasks and so on - all this can be done without problems.

Detailed instructions for using the installer can be found here .
