I love listening to music and getting to know new artists. It so happened that I listen to music entirely in albums, but I learn about new artists through FunkySouls and LastFM. For some time I listened to music through Prostopleer and Muzebra, while they could be used. And I already once made an
application for VKontakte and did a good job with their API. In general, I decided to make a small mashup and it seems it turned out cool.
Listen! - This is a new
application for Google Chrome , where you can
listen and search for VKontakte music ,
save it to the Google Drive
cloud for listening without the Internet and even download it to your computer (sic!). And with the help of LastFM database you can
get acquainted with the albums as a whole, as well as with similar artists .

What's inside?
Speaking of the application itself, this is a new packaged app with its limitations and features. For example, it does not add links to downloading music in the browser (strictly speaking, the application window does not have the ability to communicate with the browser), it has some restrictions when logging in to VK (you will have to enter your username and password again, even if you are authorized in the browser) and so on. other
On the other hand, this is a classic mashup of music search technologies VKontakte, LastFM and Google, and therefore you can listen to music endlessly, discovering more and more new groups. And thanks to the crazy search in the app, connoisseurs of the beautiful will be able to search for their favorite music immediately by genre:

About Google Drive Cloud
Listen! allows you to save music from VKontakte to Google Drive cloud and play it from there. It all works on the condition that you are logged in to Chrome. After saving the song to the cloud, it will be available locally on all of your Chrome computers. ID3v1 tags in mp3-files are used for recognizing artists and song titles. You can use this feature to at least temporarily save your music from the hands of the
evil copyists .
What for?
After a long and exhausting work on VK Offline, which I
wrote about earlier , it would seem like a good time to stop and finally do something different. But unfortunately, no matter what I started doing recently, a new application for Chrome came out. On the other hand, I have long wanted to look at LastFM API and at the same time work with music in javascript. And so it came to Listen!
In the near future there is an improvement in the search performance (I am not satisfied with the album list of the NRKTK group), scrobbling tracks on LastFM (FAP), as well as the ability to download the entire album or buy it in iTunes / Google Play. The remaining plans can be viewed on
github .
Install Listen! from the
Chrome Web Store .

PS: If this post is read by the guys from Google Russia marketing, I’m sending you rays of diarrhea for what you’ve been talking about for 2 years about Chrome in-app payments in Russia, and now there.
