The State of the Developer Nation is the fifth edition of Developer Economics, a Vision Mobile cult research series on mobile development and application economics. This report tracks the state of mobile ecosystems, developer preferences, monetization trends, revenue models and developer tools based on the largest international developer survey (more than 6,000 respondents from 115 countries).



This report reviews the latest trends in the mobile ecosystem, including developer preferences and platform priority, platform selection criteria, revenue models, and development for several types of devices. State of the Developer Nation explores the main platforms (Android, iOS and HTML5), contrasting them with newbies (BlackBerry 10, Windows 8 and Windows Phone) and only getting up to date platforms (Firefox OS, Tizen, Jolla, Ubuntu).

The report is based on an online survey of more than 6,000 developers and 21 telephone interviews conducted in the spring of 2013.
