Sony, after Canon and Nikon, introduced a full-frame image sensor corresponding to a frame size of 35 mm. The new 24.81-megapixel CMOS-sensor can do up to 6.3 frames per second, which is quite a high figure, given the not a small resolution of the matrix.
According to Sony, the new sensor will provide shooting with less noise, which is achieved through a new analog-to-digital converter circuit (Column-Parallel A / D Conversion Technique), in which each column of photosensitive elements has its own converter.
The release of new Sony sensors is about to begin in the third quarter of 2008.
