We bring to your attention information about the book, as well as a test task, which you can try to solve by yourself.
About the book
This book, published in the third edition, will help the programmer to easily pass the interview and find a job in any of the largest IT companies in the world. The book includes examples of test tasks that applicants receive at the interview, information about programming languages, technologies and templates, which is usually required for successful interviewing, as well as a lot of tips that will help prepare for the interview.
The main and most valuable part of the book is the real test tasks that applicants receive at interviews in the most famous IT-companies in the world. The book contains 17 chapters on topics such as trees and graphs, arrays and strings, recursion and sorting, design patterns and databases, etc. Each chapter contains concise information on the topic under consideration, examples of questions and test items that can be asked on it, as well as answers to them.
The authors emphasize that there are no questions invented by them in the book - all examples given are taken from real interviews. On the other hand, the book presented is not a complete collection of such tasks, but merely a representative sample. Therefore, it would be strange to expect that at one of the interviews you will get one of the tasks from the book, and even more so - to memorize the answers by heart. “Having learned how to solve not specific tasks from a book, but in general problems of this type, you will be able to cope with any question that came to your interview,” the authors write.

Given two wicks and a lighter. The lit wick burns completely in 1 hour. But the burning rate is uneven, and the wicks differ from each other. In fact, this means that it is impossible to determine the ratio between a fragment of a wick of a certain length and the time of its burning. Two equal fragments of a wick may burn at different times. How to measure 45 minutes with wicks and a lighter?
The answer from the book will be published in the comments tomorrow, 09/25/13, at 18:00.
