The walking LS3 robot will be made silent and insensitive to bullets for 10 million dollars

Back in December last year, Habré wrote about the walking robot, which was created to help the military. It can carry about 180 kilograms of cargo over a distance of 30+ kilometers. You can control the robot both by voice and by radio commands, while the robot is able to see in the dark, identify the person leading, and follow this person steadily. This robot is doing well, but there is one major drawback.

Namely - it is very noisy. The noise emitted by the robot is able to put on the ears of all enemies within a radius of a couple of kilometers. At night, quietly go all the more fail. Understanding that such a robot is unlikely to be enthusiastically received by the military, DARPA will spend $ 10 million to make this robot quiet and bulletproof by 2015. Probably, not all types of bullets can be ignored by a robot, but at least it will not fall after the first hit from a regular weapon.

And yes, the robot, as before, will be developed by Boston Dynamics, a company that has pledged to provide a new model of “robot mule” by March 31, 2015. By the way, the noise produced by the robot earlier, due to the characteristics of the hydraulic system. Now it will be changed, so that the robot will stop making noise.
