Google Constitute - Comparison of 160 World Constitutions

Google has launched a unique scientific project Constitute - a guide to all global constitutions.

“Constitutions are as unique as the peoples under their control,” the company writes in the official blog, “they have existed in one form or another for a thousand years. Each year, about five new constitutions appear, and 20-30 are revised. ”

The “youngest” constitutions are in African countries, 19 of 39 African constitutions are written after 2000.

Google Constitute is not just digitized constitutions from all countries, it is a full-fledged analytical tool that allows you to compare the functional content of these documents.

For example, the duty of a citizen to pay taxes is fixed in 73 of the 160 constitutions, the duty to serve in the army is in 98 out of 160, the duty to work is in 41 out of 160 (including in an advanced country like Japan).

Google site is based on the Comparative Constitutions Project . There you can compare the constitution even in more parameters (350 topics), including in size. For example, the longest constitution is in India (146,385 words), the shortest is in Jordan (2,270 words).
