Blizzard decided to close in-game auctions in Diablo 3

Today, the players were sent a message with the following text:

We wish to inform you about an important change in Diablo 3: we are going to remove the auction trade from the game for both play money and real money.

Initially, when creating an auction, we wanted to provide a convenient and secure exchange system. But after detailed familiarization with the feedback from users, it became clear that with all its advantages, the auction undermines the basis of Diablo gameplay: kill monsters - get cool things.

We are still working on how we will stop the auction, but we wanted to share this news immediately after the decision to close was made in order to give players the maximum amount of time to react. Please note that the final closing of auctions will take place on March 18, 2014.

We’re writing a lot of things to do.

It was a goal for the system of trades. It is not a rule.

It is a question of how much it can be. Please note that the final shutdown will occur on March 18, 2014. 3.com for further details .

It seems to me that this decision was not so unexpected. Especially in view of the May problem , which was not the first of its kind. D3 was one of the few games with a more or less developed official RMT, but Blizzard definitely felt that maintaining gameplay and reputation is more important than maintaining direct profit as a percentage from the auction.
