"Machine innovation" Elon Musk got into a difficult competition with Google and a number of other companies, promising to release Tesla electric car with the "auto-pilot" mode in three years.
Despite the boldness of the Mask's statement, he is still aware of the realism of the new project - the development of a truly fully autonomous car, which is what Google or Nissan are doing, for example, the task is really complicated and requires considerable development time; Nissan announced its plans to release a robotic car only in 2020. In Tesla X, on the contrary, they believe that a car that can not require a driver to participate in driving 90% of the time already has a significant competitive advantage and this task is completely real. “This is not speculation,” says Musk himself.
At the moment, Tesla has an interesting vacancy for an
engineer (among the requirements, however, there is a degree in mechanical engineering), the candidate’s responsibility is "... developing a decision-making system ... for fully automated driving." Mask himself confirms that all research will be carried out only by his company.
It is possible that the courage of Mask's promises (and behind him even more fiction-like plans for the
Hyperloop bullet train and the SpaceX control) is due to the success that, it seems, really accompanies him. According to Tesla plans, this year it is planned to sell 21,000 electric vehicles, the company's market capitalization is $ 20 billion, and the price of a car is planned to be lowered to $ 30,000 (now the price of the basic configuration is $ 52,400 - so the decline is quite significant).
