Symbian - the most popular OS in the world?

When people talk about which operating system is selling best, they usually compare Windows Vista and Mac OS, and also try to track the statistics of Linux installations (although this is almost impossible). But everybody forgets about the market of smartphones, the number of which in fact is already approaching the number of personal computers. Moreover, in terms of the number of devices sold, they are already ahead of the PC. Therefore, the most popular OS, obviously, will soon need to look for it there.

For example, recently representatives of Symbian have declared that 30 million devices with the Symbian operating system on board have already been sold in Japan alone. But the global smartphone market is far from being limited to Japan alone. Compare this figure with the stated sales figures for Windows Vista, which are 20 million copies. At the same time, Microsoft hopes that by July the number will increase to 60 million. These are very small numbers, considering that Symbian is soon preparing to celebrate the anniversary of 200 million smartphones sold.

If you compare with the total number of Windows-based computers in the world, then, according to Steve Ballmer, there should be about one billion. Of course, smartphones are far from such a mark, but these are already comparable numbers. In terms of the number of new OS installations, Symbian has probably already come out on top.
