Robotic worm will be able to remove brain tumors

The fact that yesterday seemed to be pure science fiction is now a reality. And the reality sometimes exceeds the wildest predictions of science fiction. For example, the other day the team of the NBIB Institute (National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering) presented a project of a robot worm capable of performing operations on the brain. This device can wade to tumors and remove them.

The difference of this method is that the device makes its way to the tumor while the patient is undergoing the MRI tomogram procedure. It all seems to work as simple: a robot is inserted before the patient will undergo a tomogram. The surgeons who control the robot can see where the ill-fated tumor is and where the worm is located in real time. So the accuracy of such operations is very high.

It is worth noting that during operations to remove tumors in the usual way, often the procedure is complicated by the fact that the tumor shifts. And sometimes doctors spend a large amount of time to find this tumor, and carry out the appropriate removal procedure.

As far as can be understood, the device simply absorbs the malignant tissue, leaving healthy tissue without damage.

The project is currently undergoing testing, on pigs, and on human corpses. After the "finishing" of the robot, this device will be able to serve the benefit of humanity. I would like to hope that the project will not get stuck at the testing stage, but will be implemented in the near future.
