At MacWorld, Steve Jobs announced that in the new firmware 1.1.3, iPod Touch owners will receive applications that were previously available only on the iPhone: Mail, Maps, Stocks, Notes, Weather and a few other minor improvements.
These updates will be in all new Touch. For those who bought it earlier, the upgrade will cost $ 20. Unpleasant of course, but not scary, I would be happy to pay. But, as it turned out, it is possible to pay only through the iTunes Store, which the Russian user is categorically not available. At a recent
Apple press conference in Moscow, official representatives recommended buying “another
iPod Touch ” with a new firmware. A wave of indignation swept through various blogs, including some began
to write official letters to Apple.
Up to this point, I was a supporter of official firmware, and did not do any special manipulations with my Touch. And now I was forced to resort to the Jailbreak process - everything turned out to be not at all difficult, and for me it ended with the successful installation of a new firmware with new functions.
The process itself consists of three steps (for Mac).
')
1. You need to start with firmware 1.1.1. If you have an older or newer, then do the following:
- Download 1.1.1 here
- Connect your Touch to iTunes
- Press and hold the Home and Power buttons on the Touch simultaneously, as soon as the Touch disappears from the list of devices in iTunes (after about 10 seconds), then release Power and continue to hold Home. As soon as iTunes says that you need to complete the Restore process, release the Home button.
- Press and hold the Option (Alt) key on the Mac's keyboard and press the Restore button. A file selection dialog will appear, where you need to specify the previously downloaded firmware 1.1.1
- After the process is over, select the option to connect a new iPod, recovery from the backup will not work.
. On the iPod in the settings, disable the automatic screen lock (otherwise you will have to periodically press the screen during the process, without letting the device fall asleep). Click on the Jailbreak button. The program itself will download firmware 1.1.3, patch it and upload it to the iPod. After that, on the iPod in the Installer program in the System section install 1.1.3 Soft Upgrade. After the upgrade is complete, reboot the iPod as described above. After that, iJailBreak will deliver the missing applications from the iPhone.
