NORD data center on Korovinsky highway

Meet this NORD data center on Korovinskoe Highway.
The data center consists of three buildings (NORD 1, NORD 2, NORD 3) and is by far the largest object of DataLine. The total area of all buildings of data centers NORD 7636 square meters. m., in such spaces will easily accommodate 1280 racks in 8 engine rooms.

Panoramic view of the NORD location: NORD 2 (gray) and NORD 1, which is near gray. The total area of NORD 2 is 1713 square meters. m, the number of bar places - 474. The total area of NORD 1 - 1320 square meters. m, the number of rack-seats - 284. And the gray case aside - this is NORD 3, which was launched this year. Total area - 1880 square meters. m, the number of upright seats - 426. In the same place where the pit (now the foundation is already poured), a new building NORD 4 is being built with a total area of 11,700 sq. m. m and 2000 racks. The launch of the first NORD 4 engine rooms is scheduled for the first half of 2014.

All halls are designed as a hermetic zone (“house in the house”). Before starting, the containment is carefully checked for leaks, pouring tons of water on it. In general, under such a reliable roof is not terrible to place the server with the most important data.

Power supply

Electricity from the city network to NORD is supplied via two independent beams, that is, the power supply of the data center is reserved according to the 2N scheme. If a failure occurs on at least one beam, the data center automatically switches to power supply using 9 diesel generator sets (DGS). While DGS are included in the work, the power supply in the data center is carried out using uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
Here is our "outlet" right next to it.

DGU oil and antifreeze are constantly in a heated state, thanks to which diesel engines are constantly ready to start and go into operation in less than a minute. The NORD data center uses FG Wilson DGUs in container design. NORD 1 is served by 4 DGS, NORD 2 is three, NORD 3 is two. In the near future, NORD 2 and NORD 3 will have two more diesel generator sets. All DGUs are reserved under the N + 1 scheme.

DGU fuel tanks are designed for 6 hours of work, and existing contracts with contractors for prompt delivery of diesel fuel guarantee an indefinitely long work of the data center, even in case of a long-term failure of the city power grid.

While the DGS are turned on, the power supply of the entire data center is kept on the UPS. All NORD enclosures are equipped with UPS made by APC MGE Galaxy 7000 series. Their capacity is designed to power the entire data center for 10 minutes. This time is more than enough for the plant DGU. UPSs are reserved under the 2N scheme. Three lines of batteries are connected to each UPS.

Cooling and climate control system

The NORD data center maintains a constant microclimate: the temperature is kept at 25 ̊ (± 2), and the humidity - 30-70%.
From the air conditioners, the cooled air is supplied under the raised floor and further, through the perforated tiles of the raised floor, blown into the “cold” corridors. From there, servers pick it up from the front and blow hot air from the back side (the traditional principle of “cold” and “hot” corridors).

All equipment in the data center is “cooled” under precision dual-circuit freon air conditioners.

On the roof and next to the buildings there are external condenser units connected to air conditioners by two independent tracks. Each air conditioner has two such external units. The entire air conditioning system is reserved under the scheme N + 1.

Security and video surveillance system

Reliable security and access control systems (ACS) will not miss unwanted guests in NORD.
And those who have access to the holy of holies are closely monitored by the external and internal cameras of the security surveillance system (COT). So, no gesture in the premises and adjacent areas of the data center will not go unnoticed. Video archives are stored from three months.

But this is not all: for those who wish, you can arrange a real Fort Knox - install additional fences, access control systems and cameras for individual posts.

Finally, all NORD data center buildings are equipped with alarms (“alarm button”) of the FSUE “Protection” of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
To get inside the NORD data center, you need to order a pass no later than an hour before the visit, present an identity document at the security post and, under the strict guidance of the engineer on duty, go to explore the data center spaces.
Despite its inaccessibility, for DataLine customers wishing to visit their equipment, the doors of the NORD data center are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Monitoring center

Here, on numerous monitors, all the engineering systems of the data center are at a glance: here all information about the power consumption parameters, the condition of the cold supply systems and the availability of backup power sources - DGU and UPS is transmitted. Ticket boards of clients sent from the Personal Account are displayed on the MCC screens.
Speaking of the latter, almost all the information that appears on the screens of our MCC is also available to customers in the Personal Account.
There is also information on the equipment that is involved by the client in the data center, contract documentation and information on payment services.
But this is not all: throughout the day, every 4 hours, the engineers on duty perform a detour of all machine rooms and infrastructure facilities. So everything in the NORD data center under vigilant control

Fire safety system

For every fire (in the truest sense of the word) cases, the NORD data center is equipped with an automatic gas fire extinguishing system.
It provides early detection of the source of fire, an alert (our siren will raise the dead) and automatic extinguishing.
As a fire extinguishing agent, freon 125 is used, which is supplied through pipelines to the protected premises.

The system is super-reliable, as it is reserved according to the 2N scheme.

Telecommunications

Network and cable infrastructure is reserved for the 2N principle. The IP / MPLS network is distributed over two data centers and has points of presence at MMTS-9 and MMTS-10. The network is connected to several traffic exchange points (MSK-IX, DATA-IX, RETN-IX).

All nodes are interconnected by reserved fiber-optic communication lines (FOCL).
The total bandwidth of the Internet band is 50 Gbit / s, the communication channels are 150 Gbit / s.

And finally - the beauty of our data center NORD.
