Google refused to remove The Pirate Bay homepage

The Pirate Bay is one of the few torrent trackers, on the main page of which there are no links to pirated materials. However, this does not stop copyright holders from attempting to remove it from the search index. To Google’s credit, it strictly observes the letter of the DMCA law - and refuses to comply.

For example, BPI (British Recorded Music Industry) Corporation is one of the most active “partners” in removing pirated content from search results. To date, it has already sent 229,705 such requests, which contained a total of more than 32 million pages for removal from the index.

Last week, BPI sent another request from 2000 URLs, among which was the main page of Pirate Bay.

The removal page was the title page of thepiratebay.sx - one of the many mirrors of the popular torrent tracker. As follows from a Google report, this page was the only one that did not take any actions (No actions taken), that is, the company refused to comply with the BPI request and remove the page from the search index. This is quite logical, because there is really no pirated content or links to it on the title page. At the same time, The Pirate Bay is also used to distribute legal content, for example, open source distribution kits.

This is not the first time Google receives a request to delete a page - and refuses to comply with it. For example, the search engine refused to delete several pages from habrahabr.ru at the request of Microsoft Corporation.
