China broke into the intellectual elite of the world

Over the past decade, the number of patent applications filed in China has increased more than six times . As a result, this country has become one of the largest “inventor centers” in the world.

According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in 2004 (this is the last year for which there are statistics) over 130,000 applications were received by the patent office in Beijing, half of which were received from Chinese companies and individuals, and the same - from foreign.

Thus, China came in fifth in the world in the number of patents. It is overtaken only by Japan (1st place), the USA (2), the European Union (3), and South Korea (4). By the number of patents per capita, Japan and South Korea are leading.
