California Governor Jerry Brown is preparing to sign a
law approved by the State Senate, starting a program on researching the use of electronic numbers on cars.
Technically, the solution is not difficult - electronic numbers are simple displays mounted on the rear and front bumper of a car. The obvious new feature is another - the ability to display both official and possibly advertising information on such numbers. For example, nothing prevents you from displaying its current status on a car: “In the hijacking”, “Registration deadline has expired” or something else like that; moreover, this will be dealt with remotely by the relevant authorities - the police or the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
From the point of view of the authorities, this approach has obvious advantages: first, the manipulation in high-tech numbers requires relatively high qualifications, not comparable to the one required to unscrew the old numbers and hang fake with a screwdriver, and therefore the possibility of fraud or fraud should to decline. Secondly, the process of registering new cars will be significantly simplified and economically beneficial - as an illustration of this fact, the following is given: postal costs associated with registration (printing and distribution of stickers, registration cards and other things) require more than $ 20 million from the authorities every year. in this case, most of them can be avoided. Thirdly, tracking cars (which has been done for a long time) with the help of cameras will become virtually unnecessary since electronic numbers will be able to identify themselves.
')
It should be noted that everything will be done rather carefully so as not to cause a surge of suspicion regarding the new ability to track the movement of car owners in the light of recent spy scandals - the moment that no private information will be collected will be declared in a special way. The introduction of electronic numbers will begin with the official machines of companies such as UPS or FedEX and will not affect private individuals for the time being; in total, only 0.5% of the registered cars in the state will participate in the experiment.
The conclusion regarding the expediency of electronic numbers should be made no later than January 1, 2017.
