Wikipedia will hold a census of authors

Over the next few months, Wikipedia project participants will undergo a comprehensive study. The administration of the national encyclopedia Wikimedia Foundation has hired professional sociologists from the Dutch company UNU-MERIT , who will compile questionnaires and conduct a census.

Wikipedia leaders want to understand who the authors of the project are, what kind of people they are, who of them makes the greatest contribution, and most importantly - what are the motives for gratuitous creativity ?

It is not yet clear whether the study will be anonymous, like other studies of this kind, or participants will be asked to reveal their real names. In any case, the identity of the authors a little clear. As is known, the almost complete anonymity of the authors is one of the main drawbacks of Wikipedia. By the way, a competitive project Citizendium was created not so long ago, where this deficiency was eliminated. There, each author must sign with his real name, preferably with all regalia and academic titles.
