Maintaining standards is not easy

In connection with the increased pressure from the developers of the "correct" browsers, one of the most prominent manifestations of which is the complaint of Opera Software to the European Commission, the creators of Internet Explorer seriously thought about making IE 8 more compatible with existing web standards. However, the solution to this problem threatens to generate a lot of new ones. In particular, it is possible that most of the websites, once "sharpened" for display in IE 6, will "break" in new versions of the Redmond browser. In order to prevent this kind of “web-based Armageddon”, IE developers plan to use various tricks that will help make the return to standards more benign. In particular, it is supposed to make such "crutches":

1. Use the so-called “Quirks mode” mode, which allows to take into account all violations of web standards inherent in IE 6;
2. Use the “Standards mode” to display in IE 7;
3. Use a special meta-tag of approximately the following type:

/>

which will tell the browser that the page should be displayed in full compliance with the standards.
')
True, web developers immediately thought about some of the problems that may arise in this case. In particular, how pages with a similar tag will be displayed in other browsers, and will it not be necessary to enter a meta-tag like this:

/>

Discussion of this issue can be read here .

PS By the way, I recently translated lng-files to 9.50 and found there those very “Quirks mode” and “Standards mode”. Norwegians are preparing in advance for the browser in the vicinity of IE 8.
