Readius Flexible Screen Device - Technical Details

The Polymer Vision website has details on the long-awaited device with a flexible screen - Readius ( promised at the end of last year ). The device will be presented to the general public in February at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Readius is expected to go on sale in the middle of this year (nothing is yet known about the price).



Functionality

In addition to the ability to read e-books, Readius functionality will allow you to listen to audiobooks and music (a large number of formats is supported), read RSS news and view e-mail (pop3, imap, attachments), and also use it as a mobile phone (you can call via the contact list which is synchronized with the PC).

Content will be available through a single Readius portal. Content owners will be provided with tools for publishing content on the portal. What content will be available does not say: "Polymer Vision is in the negotiations with the largest producers of content."

PS / update
Although judging by the description, the concept of the device is still raw, but as for the design, Readius is much more interesting than the Amazon Kindle . The main problem of Readius is the lack of input capability (which is in the Kindle): it seems to me that the ability to read email without answering can be of little use, the phone function without dialing numbers also does not replace the “regular” phone. Even when reading books, the function of adding notes is often necessary and useful.

A custom phone keypad + T9 would solve most of these problems and make Readius an order of magnitude more attractive and useful. Maybe they still have time? .)
