Vowney Verne V5 Review. MTK processor with OTG support

Introduction. Recently, mobile phones have become such an inevitable part of our lives. It is difficult to imagine even one day without them. The progress of technology development has no boundaries, and there are those that do not lag behind it. I am talking about Chinese smartphones. Long weeks of waiting have been a success. I got into the hands of another "Chinese" VerneV5 from digging Vowney.

Let's first tell you about the characteristics:

Description. Recently, Vowney has released a new and very interesting model - Verne V5. It has support for One-The-Go, which is quite convenient in everyday life. Powerful characteristics operating OS Android 4.2.1.
The smartphone came to me in an environmentally friendly packaging made of very thick cardboard. I, as a person who is not indifferent to the fate of our planet, is very nice. If you compare with the packaging of other "Chinese", for example, like JiaYu, whose packaging is a regular, plastic transparent container. At first, I thought it was a seaweed container. Vowney took it more seriously.
In the box, I found this configuration:

Alas, there was no spare battery and headphones included. This is not just me. Although I would not even unpack the headphones.

Screen. When I saw it, for a moment I thought it was an OLED display. Saturated colors, white as white, not gray, and black as black. This screen quality is provided by the Japanese company Sharp. They also took care of the viewing angles. Where you do not tilt, it is clearly visible everywhere, no color inversion or loss of contrast, this is the whole merit of the IPS matrix. Diagonal 5 inch, yes, a shovel, but immediately adapted to the size. The screen has a resolution of 1280x720, which is quite suitable for playing HD and FHD movies without problems. But among all the advantages there is one terrible drawback - this is a factory defect / defect. With a slight touch on the screen, strong streaks are triggered. It turned out that this is under pressure from the plugs of the loop, and at two points. This is terribly annoying.

Sound. The sound of this smartphone leaves much to be desired. Audibility is no. Whether the volume is blunt in the firmware, or in the hardware, this issue is still being resolved. It's a shame, of course, when you miss important calls on the street. There is no volume, but you do not feel the vibration, it is very weak. In the settings of the engineering menu, I adjusted the volume more, but still this is not enough. In general, the sound is the weakest side of the smartphone.

Above you can find a headset jack

Camera. It is clearly the advantage of this device. In the normal mode, it removes normally, without blurring, in some places even “bokeh” appears out of focus. But what I personally liked was the macro mode. The focal length is somewhere from 1 cm. Yes, yes, it is from 1 cm. I would not believe it if I did not try it. With a long shooting video in FHD format, the camera is very hot, which becomes scary for her, so as not to burn out, that is. Night shooting is pretty good.

Also well implemented support for vertical and horizontal panoramas.

Example of night shooting (bokeh):

From the left end, the volume rocker, and from the right - the on / off button. There is one not convenience that the “+” volume rocker is at the same level as the lock button, while both buttons are pressed simultaneously. It would be possible to move the lock button a bit lower.

USB / OTG. One of the main aspects when choosing this phone is to support One-The-Go. Simply put, this is the ability to connect external peripherals to a smartphone. This device supports the following devices:

Of course, with the touch screen, using I / O is stupid, but the joystick is convenient in some games.
As for external drives, then everything is sad. The phone is Android 4.2, and it still does not have a convenient quick button to safely remove the flash drive. One has to flatter deeply in the settings and there choose the appropriate item.
List of supported file systems for external drives:

At the bottom of the smartphone is a USB / OTG connector

Performance. The power of the device is clearly not cheated. On a fast MTK6589 processor with a PowerVR SGX 544 video processor, games are faster than ever.
And here is the result of the test Antutu:

Generally summarize:
+ Camera
+ Screen
+ Performance
- Build quality
- Sound
