The Chinese Internet has become a victim of the strongest DDoS attacks.
On August 25, CNNIC - the administrator of the national domain of China. N - was under a DDoS attack for half a day. This was perhaps the most powerful attack in the history of not only the Chinese, but also the global Internet.
All five DNS servers in the .cn zone were attacked. For half a day, users noted interruptions in access to many sites in this domain zone and a strong decrease in download speed. More information about the effects of DDoS attacks has yet to be established. But, if we consider that the Chinese domain ranks fourth among the domain zones in terms of the number of registrations (more than 10 million second-level domains), we can definitely say that the damage was very great.
We also note that ICANN chose CNNIC as a backup administrator for the new domain zones, i.e. the company will provide temporary technical support for all second-level domains whose owners fail or for other reasons will not be able to manage the domain zone. CNNIC is considered one of the most reliable registries, but despite this, the attackers were able to successfully carry out an attack against the entire domain zone.
