Fundraising campaign on Ubuntu Edge is over

That ended the fundraising campaign on Ubuntu Edge. Unfortunately, the required amount could not be collected, although after the first reactive days of crowdfunding, I really hoped for a successful outcome.

Hello to all.

It was a crazy month. We broke records, wrote and talked about us all over the world, our F5 keys could not withstand the onslaught. We got a lot of invaluable lessons in crowdfunding. Our wildest fantasies about creating a beautiful device were wrecked, but in the end we see only a positive result.

We collected $ 12,809,906, turning Ubuntu Edge into the largest crowdfunding campaign! Nearly 20,000 people believed in our dreams and invested hundreds of dollars in the phone just to give us a chance to make the dream a reality. And not only individuals, but also whole companies believed in us: Bloomberg LP invested $ 80,000 in the project. Thank you all for this.

And all thanks to the wide community of Ubuntu users. Many people donated time and money to create newsletters, advertising in the media. We have seen entire websites dedicated to Ubuntu Edge. With the biggest fans of Ubuntu, we will contact and thank you personally.

But the main thing in this campaign is that the winner is Ubuntu. We longed to create Egde to show everyone how Ubuntu works on phones. Thousands of people crave to own a phone with Ubuntu and, believe me, you will not have to wait long. We will continue negotiations with major phone manufacturers, and many of the largest mobile network operators have already joined the Ubuntu Carrier Advisory Group.

As for crowdfunding, we believe that this is a great way to let buyers express their point of view, support innovation, bring transparency to the industry. And, perhaps, one day we will look at our mistakes, achievements and try again.
