The release of proxmox 3.1 and the first step to the paid repository

image

The release of proxmox 3.1 has been released, by default it has an enterprise repository, access to which is paid, but this is at the end of the article.

From the interesting added support for SPICE, it allows you to run applications in the virtual machine on the server and use it on your desktop as a local application using completely remote resources, according to this scheme, where 1C works through Citrix Metaframe.

The second tasty feature is GLUSTERFS from Redhat, now you can store virtuals on a distributed cluster file system of production level.

There are no more especially significant changes, we have updated many packages, moved to the base debian 7.1. If anyone is interested in a complete list of changes, you can see here: pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Roadmap#Proxmox_VE_3.1

The saddest thing is the introduction of the default enterprise repository. You can manually register a free unsupported repository yourself. The wiki says that the free repository will be used as a test site and they do not guarantee the work of the software in it, probably the analogy between Fedora and RHEL is appropriate, although in their case we have a wonderful and free Centos. Details about this are written here: pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Package_repositories

And now tar, subscription is carried out for a year (although the prices are indicated for a month, so as not to scare us right away, you still have to pay for a year), proxmox is licensed by processor, the cost of the cheapest subscription which only includes access to the repository is almost 5 euro per processor per month. If you have an eight-core server, then in a year you will have to pay about 5 * 8 * 12 = $ 480, which is not quite a small amount. To be honest, I was hoping that they would license it at a server and a bit cheaper. Subscribe link: www.proxmox.com/proxmox-ve/pricing

Thinking about quietly what to migrate next year?
