Ludum Dare is a game development contest in which people from all over the world have been gathering for more than ten years to make a bunch of games in just a couple of days. For those who complain about the lack of originality of modern games, I strongly advise you to take a closer look at this event.
The contest rules are very simple:
- Make the game to be alone.
- All code, graphics, sound and the rest must be created within 48 hours.
- The game must match the theme of the competition.
- You can use all public libraries, software and development tools.
- The source code must be attached to the game.
Right now, there is a
selection of the topic Ludum Dare 27 , the second round of voting has already begun.
Simultaneously with the classic format (The Competition), the competition is held according to less strict rules (The Jam). Teams can participate in it, an extra day is given to complete the game, and you can not post the source code.
When time runs out, everyone starts to play the games created, and laid out their game can vote for other people's games and evaluate them according to different criteria: innovation, relevance, humor, atmosphere, etc.

There are no prizes as such, but Ludum Dare members consistently receive a lot of press attention and feedback from many other game developers. For example, the success of the
Gods Will Be Watching game in the previous competition helped developers
raise enough money to start developing a full-scale game.
