Google has launched an unexpected
experiment on YouTube: every user can completely disable ads on the site, including text ads inside the video. Apparently, the experiment is carried out in the framework of standard A / B testing, the company just wants to learn how visitors work with the site in the absence of advertising.
To take part in the experiment, you need to make small changes to the cookie YouTube.
To do this, go to the site youtube.com, then in the browser to run the console:
- Chrome / Opera 15+ - Ctrl + Shift + J for Windows / Linux / ChromeOS or Command-Option-J for Mac;
- Firefox - Ctrl + Shift + K under Windows / Linux or Command-Option-K under Mac;
- Opera 12 - Ctrl + Shift + I for Windows / Linux or Command-Option-I for Mac, then click "Console";
- Internet Explorer - F12 and select "Console".
In the console window, insert the following command:
')
document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=oKckVSqvaGw; path=/; domain=.youtube.com";window.location.reload();
and press Enter.
It was:

It became:

Now we no longer see ads when visiting the YouTube site. However, users of AdBlock Plus or similar extensions will probably not notice any difference. Although Google
pays Adblock Plus developers for including their ad in the white list, but this list can be edited.
In any case, it is interesting that Google conducts such experiments, because the company incurs direct financial losses from the disappearance of advertising.
