The first quantum teleportation of information on a computer chip

Physicists from the Swiss Higher Technical School of Zurich (ETH Zurich) were the first in the world to teleport the quantum bits of information from one section of a silicon chip to another location on the same chip, at a distance of 6 mm. At the same time, they also set a world record for the number of teleported qubits: 10,000 per second.

This is a crucial achievement for the creation of quantum computers on silicon chips.

For the experiment, a 7x7 mm chip was used, which was cooled to a superconducting state, that is, to a temperature close to absolute zero. There were three circuits on the microcircuit (Q1, Q2 and Q3, on the diagram). Two of them were used to generate and send qubits, and the third - for receiving.

The pits in this scheme are photons from electrons in the chains Q2 and Q3. In the superconducting state, the electrons exchange photons, and they entangle with each other, that is, they acquire a bound state. The disappearance of the photon property at Q2 with the appearance of these properties of the photon at Q3 is considered to be quantum teleportation of the qubit.

The authors of the experiment say that their method of quantum teleportation differs from similar developments of other scientists by its reliability. If earlier information transmission was demonstrated with a small probability, the new method works much more accurately. The diagram shows the real (blue) and imaginary (red) reconstructed density matrices for the output state | ψ out ), measured using tomography a) after selecting data with the Bell measurement result 00; b) using averaged reads at Q3 when performing fully predictable ahead teleportation. Ideally expected values are framed on the columns. The accuracy of the state is indicated by numbers in black fields ( source ).
