
Google representatives announced that a database of open-source scientific publications will be created at
research.google.com .
The project, known as “Palimpsest”, is a repository of terabytes of open sources of scientific information. The project was first presented to the scientific community in August 2007 (the presentation is available
here ) and will soon be available to everyone. Palimpsest operates using
Trendalyzer data visualization technology.
Access to data will be free for all, the site interface will acquire the possibility of annotation and commenting in the style of YouTube.
Two large databases of information, the opening of which in the framework of the project will take place in the near future - 120 terabytes of Hubble data and illustrations from the Archimedes
palimpsest , a 10th century
manuscript , which gave the name to the Google project.
