Conkeror - a browser for those who understand

I think that a large number of people have heard, seen, or even tried it themselves.
Firefox extensions that make it easier to work with it from the keyboard:
Hit-o-hint , Firemacs , Vimperator . I somehow tried to use
each of them, but they had one common feature - I couldn’t
get used to. :) But Conkeror turned out to be a completely different matter - I already use
second day and, despite the shortcomings, very pleased.

The biggest difference from the first three is that the first three are extensions.
for Firefox, which complement its interface, and Conqueror is absolutely
separate browser. The current stable version, released in October, is based on
second Fox and simply replaces its interface with its own. Current, from a branch
experimental-buffers (quite actively developing), works like a completely
a separate beta-based product XULRunner 1.9.

The disadvantage of this approach, despite its loneliness surrounded by continuous
advantages, very large - just like that, without additional efforts, expansion
Firefox does not work. For me personally, this means giving up on Firebug and webdev.
toolbar'a, to which I, logically, is not ready. :( Communication with the developers on this topic
especially the rainbow news did not bring - the main problem of porting
is the binding of extensions to the fox interface. Well, the lack of examples, but I
While full of optimism and I believe that all this can be overcome. :)

In an asset of positive features - very fast start (not 5 seconds
to the full, and easy and less than less than a second), and convenient - an order of magnitude better,
than the first three - control from the keyboard.

For example, the main action — clicking on a link — is simply pressing f
(follow), after which all links are numbered. But instead of
overloaded sites, dialing 74 or 124, you can click a few
letters from the link text that will filter them out - and will only be numbered
filtered links. Similarly, the address is copied and saved.
links, you just need to press c or s . Instead of moving - copying - saving the link, do the same with another object, before the corresponding key
you need to press the modifier - i for a picture, f for a frame, * M for MathML modules.

Again, there is a hotkey Cu , familiar with emaksu - modifier. g - asks for the address and goes through it; Cu g - opens for this new
buffer. Cn - goes down to the line, Cu Cn - to 4 lines, Cu 30 Cn

- 30 lines. And so on.

The transition between the buffers is well done (read - tabs in the usual firefox
slang, although there are no tabs here): Cx b - and the list of open
URLs, which is filtered, supplemented by tabs, support the selection of cursors.

Of the interesting things - there are hot keys [[ and ]] that react to
links (or link elements) with the attributes rel="prev" and rel="next"

respectively. I heard about such a thing in HTML for the first time, under
influenced immediately went and added these attributes to the main blog page for
go to pages with previous / next posts. :-)

From annoying things in the current version there is no history of open URLs, and
return after closing any buffer to the first, not the previous one. I guess, that
at least the second is easy to fix. :)

In general, the authors are determined to make an analog of Emaks in the world of browsers - not so much controlled from the keyboard, as scriptable and generally browser oriented on advanced users.

PS By the way, a great thing - an opportunity in textarea to press Ci and edit
text in an external editor. What I'm doing now is editing it in Emax. :-)

And finally - a screenshot . Although ascetic, of course, but just in case ...
