No, you do not need to go to the site and buy a special USB flash drive on it, just download the archive and install the python on your own.
So, PortablePython provides us with a bundle:
Portable python can be downloaded from the official website . The assembly weighs about 11mb, and in unpacked form it will take about 35mb of flash drive space.
Attention! The project is in beta.
Also, so far there is no possibility to set a working folder for scripts.

Personal impressions:
I actually only learn python, I did not try to run gui-programs under a portable interpreter, but all my simple scripts work fine. It is useful for me, because as a victim of our excellent education system, I now have to sit at the computer for four and a half hours, which has the option of installing software, is blocked by the administrator, and engage in educational nonsense. When I’m done with this nonsense, or sometimes instead of it, I open the textbook and practice in python (they usually don’t usually be allowed to leave the “workplace” ahead of time).
