The phrase "perezalil on habrastorage" loses its meaning

While the site developers are modestly silent, they are busy testing new functionality, I’ll report on the inconspicuous but important business of reproducing the Internet on a separate site. This was already written on Habré 10 days ago: habrahabr.ru/post/188436 , but the phrase was made more clearly to explain the innovation in one of the most recent articles: " perezalil on habrastorage ". Everything would be fine, but now it makes no sense.

If earlier years the site Habra used third-party image display services, in connection with which the images of the dead services distorted the appearance and sometimes the meaning of old articles, now they have reached their hands and opportunities to ensure that the site is no longer dependent on the arbitrariness of random hosts - all images of robots are automatically copied to habrastorage.org. Above the comments, this inconspicuous work began earlier, in July, on the content of the articles - recently, in early August (2013). There is no need even to give examples - look at the HTML source code of any recent articles - in them you will not find domains with “left” pictures anymore. Or, better look at the code where the author reliably used third-party image hosting: habrahabr.ru/post/189474 , because most of the authors voluntarily use habrastorage.org.

The difference is that the robot added an auto-saved picture not to the main domain habrastorage.org, but to the subdomain habr.habrastorage.org. And this is all that remains of the former connectedness and anarchy of the Internet.

Older articles (July and earlier) are not subject to change by the robot.

The result of innovation for users has significantly more advantages than disadvantages. Now the pictures do not depend on the arbitrariness of third-party services, but the author, as before, when editing the article, can change the picture to the updated one (the robot after editing will immediately rewrite it in the habrastorage.org cache).

There are other advantages. The minus is seen in two points: the author cannot manipulate the image directly from his hosting and 2) - the author cannot set up counters and publish articles with visitor statistics, as it was recently possible to do here: habrahabr.ru/post/186864 . This is almost the last article on statistics of page visits (with graphs).

Such a minus, described in the previous article, is also not a minus and is easily solved by reference:

The use of external images made it possible to place at the end of the blog recording of the button-picture combined with its click counter. Something like “Tweet! - 150 people tweeted. (Or with a counter of some other quantity. For example, “Donate money to the above-described project! - 320,050 rubles have already been collected.”) Now the picture will stop changing, so this technique is not possible on χα.

Because, firstly, clicking on a simple picture and did not do anything before, and the effect of the counter could be achieved only with a link, which will open another picture-counter. But even now - we are writing a link that opens a page on another site with a counter - we get the same counter.

Conclusion: you can post pictures now anywhere, just to read them at least once. For example, on your dropbox. After a few seconds of the demonstration, the robot will save the images from the article on the Habr website, and the dropbox or Amazon hosting will be protected from habra effect and excessive spending of money on traffic for the author (the owner of the hosting with a traffic charge). (The question of the quality, the snuggling of pictures - has not been investigated, but I will quote Boomburum’s answer about this:
