John Carmack joins Oculus and ... still remains in id Software

Today, Oculus management reported unexpected news: John Carmack, who needs no introduction, officially joins the Oculus Rift team as Chief Technical Officer (CTO).

Initially, the news media reported that Carmack had left id Software, a studio he founded. Later Bethesda Publishing and id Software responded with assurances that Carmack remains in id and the games that the studio is working on, the employment of Carmack by another project will not affect. However, from now on, no less important project for Carmack is Oculus Rift, and not just Doom 4, which, as it was reported in the spring , is being reworked from scratch.

John Carmack has long been known as an avid fan of Oculus Rift devices. It was he who presented the prototype of the stereovizor at the E3 exhibition in 2012 and announced the first game that received the support of the device - Doom 3 BFG Edition.
