New experiment from NASA: one twin brother in orbit, the second - on Earth

We all heard about the twin paradox , an interesting theory that was first formulated by Paul Langevin in 1911. This theory was repeatedly played up by both science fiction writers and scientists. It may well be that soon mankind will have the opportunity to test the reality of this theory in practice, after all, you need nothing at all - just invent a new type of rocket engine. Well, for now NASA is going to carry out an interesting experiment with its astronauts, two of which, fortunately, are twin brothers.

NASA has already disowned the assumption that the experiment is being conducted to test the very paradox. Indeed, after all, one of the brothers will go into orbit for about a year. And the second - will remain on Earth. The experiment will begin in March 2015. Over the course of a year, both twins will take blood for analysis, checking what changes have taken place and how much the physiological processes of one of the brothers differ from those of the second brother.

Among other things, they will check the level of protein in the blood, the percentage of other substances, and, if possible, determine the presence of genetic mutations. Of course, such analyzes have been and are being carried out now, but for the first time NASA had the opportunity to check all this using two “identical samples”, so to speak.

Now there is a set of proposals for the experiment, and the most interesting proposals that will be included in the research program will receive an award of up to 50 thousand US dollars. The winner will find out about his award in January next year. Proposals can be sent up to September 17 of this year.

In general, NASA is trying to distance itself from the “twin paradox”, but we know it :)
