Library of Congress uploads photo archive on Flickr
The Library of Congress launched a joint project with photo hosting Flickr , in the framework of which historical images from library collections will be uploaded to the “flicker”. Out of a total library archive of 14 million photos on Flickr, only about 3,000 pieces from two popular collections have been posted for which copyright has already expired.
The idea of the project is that users must provide each photo with thematic tags and description. Perhaps in this way they will be able to fill the existing informational gaps, because not all the photos know when they were taken and who is depicted on them.
The owners of the Flickr site decided not to limit themselves to working with the Library of Congress and launched The Commons global project to collect the best photo collections in the world, which have already become national property.
