Frequencies for 3G will be highlighted at the end of October

On October 23, the State Radio Frequency Commission should allocate frequencies for third-generation 3G cellular networks, Kommersant reports yesterday's words of Leonid Reiman, head of the Ministry of Communications and Telecommunications. “The competition for the 3G license will be announced before the end of this year,” the minister said, adding that there are no obstacles to the allocation of radio frequencies.



“It is assumed that licenses will not be awarded at auctions, as was the case in Western Europe, but will be distributed at competitions. In total, it is planned to distribute three or four licenses to the whole of Russia, ”said Pavel Morozov, advisor to the head of the Federal Communications Agency.



Experts believe that the emergence of a 3G standard in the country will help operators to repeat their own success in 2001–2005 - during the cellular boom, when annual growth rates of revenues and subscriber bases of companies were 100–120%.
