I prefer to use Google Reader not for reading messages, but for selection for later reading in the original source.
I use the keyboard to navigate in Reader.
I view the feeds in the List view.
Firefox :)
My two ribbon view templates:
Immediately by the title, I understand that the message is interesting and I want to open the source in the background tab.
I open the message ('o' key) and I understand that it is worthy of reading. I want to collapse it in the Reader and open the source in the background to return to it later.
Problem
The keyboard shortcuts in the Reader are not very convenient for the templates described.
Decision
Greasemonkey script that adds two useful shortcuts. As a result, we get the ability to perform each of the two templates by pressing a single button.
Script use
When the message is minimized, press 'b', and the source opens in the background tab. Also, the message is marked read (this allows you to consider it in the Trends).
When the element is maximized (i.e., you press 'o'), press 'Enter': the source opens in the background tab, the message is minimized (and read it has already been noted by pressing 'o').
Also, the script slightly modifies Reader's behavior when pressing 's' (star): now the message, in addition to 'starred', becomes read (again, for accounting in Trends).
