REG.RU offers a new approach to the use of domains

REG.RU recently launched two new services for the Russian market, which in the future may fundamentally change the attitude of users to domain names. We are talking about the services of “Domain Lease” and “Domain Name Inheritance” .

Thanks to the introduction of new services, for all REG.RU clients, domains acquire properties inherent in classic objects of ownership, which is extremely timely, because there are already precedents when domain names were considered as property. In addition, now the cost of domains can reach hundreds of thousands of dollars, so the use of such services may well become a prerequisite for "survival" in the market.

The service allows the owner of a domain name to receive a permanent income from its transfer for temporary use, while maintaining the domain administration rights. REG.RU in this case acts as a guarantor of the transaction for both parties.

It is no secret that due to the constant growth in the number of registered domains, there is an acute shortage of “beautiful” addresses, and in order to acquire one of them, customers have to pay a tidy sum. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford it, so the domains can stand idle for years without waiting for the new owner, bringing only losses to the current administrator (after all, no one cancels the renewal fee).

Taking advantage of the opportunity to rent a domain name, the domain owner will be able to make a profit, while maintaining the rights of administration and disposal of the domain. The tenant of the domain, in turn, without significant financial costs, will receive for temporary use a domain on which it will be possible to build and develop the website on clear transparent terms.

The domain administrator and future tenant independently determine the cost and terms of the domain lease. After that, each of the parties concludes an agreement with REG.RU for the lease of a domain name, in which REG.RU acts as a guarantor of the transaction for both the lessor and the tenant.

When concluding an agreement, the tenant undertakes not to post illegal content on his resource. Thus, the domain owner will be fully protected from problems related to the legal issues of the site. The fulfillment of all the conditions of the contract is monitored by the registrar; liability is provided for their non-fulfillment by the contract.

Domain Name Inheritance

The service allows the domain administrator to specify in advance the person to whom the domain name will be transferred in the event of his death. To do this, the owner must sign the "Agreement on the transfer of domain name administration rights in the event of the administrator's death" and indicate in it the name and contact details of the future heir.

Until that moment, there was no such service on the Russian market. Most often, the registrars decided to delegate rights to the heir to the domain name after the fact after submitting the death certificate of the domain administrator and documents confirming the right of inheritance, which in the absence of legal grounds was a risky operation for the registrar.

In this regard, there was a possibility of disputes between the registrar and the heir, because, according to the current legislation, the registrar has the right to cancel the registration of a domain name immediately after receiving irrefutable evidence of the death of the administrator. This is due to the fact that the right to administer a domain is a service, therefore, in current practice, it is not classified as a property and is not included in the estate.

REG.RU went to meet the users by proposing to officially transfer the domains by inheritance, specially developing for this a legal scheme that guarantees the fulfillment of the conditions set by the administrator. This not only insures potential heirs from possible troubles, but also allows legal entities to retain the domain if it is registered to a specific person (for example, a director or founder).
