Most recently, I wrote that the Google Play Store has opened pre-order for “Google version” of the flagship smartphones HTC and Samsung - One and GALAXY S4. Devices with the prefix Google Edition can currently be ordered only by residents of the United States. But residents of Russia are also lucky, they can get these devices if they use the services of an intermediary.
Actually, that's what I did. The choice of two flagships with pure Android fell on a smartphone from Samsung, namely the Galaxy S4 - the LTE version. What does this device look like, how does it work and how to get it? I will try to tell about it in the review.
Before you introduce the device, I will talk about the purchase and delivery. The device comes with the prefix Google Play edition, and therefore sold in the Google Play store and only for residents of the United States.

First you need to create your account on the site of the intermediary. Nothing complicated, go to the site Shopfans and select the registration . Enter your personal data.

If you plan to send using the Shopfans-Express method, then you should attach scans of documents. There are not many of them: a copy of the passport , a signed contract with a customs broker , a guarantee certificate .
Why do I need to provide documents? The fact is that due to strict customs rules, Shopfans are forced to follow formalities when departing via the Shopfans-Express method. And therefore you need to prove that the goods are sent to a real person with this contract. Therefore, along with him, need a copy of the passport and signatures on the documents. All documents are loaded once, which means the following orders will be sent much easier.
We should have 4 files (2 files - a passport, 1 file - a contract, 1 file - a letter). The recommended format for scanned documents and photos is jpg or pdf. We lead to a normal form and compare with the sample: https://shopfans.ru/guide/shopfans-express/examples.html . After that, enter the passport data in Russian and attach files.
In fact, the procedure takes 5 minutes - if there is a scanner at home. I did not have it, went to the neighbor, the elapsed time - 10 minutes.
Everything, we have the address, we attached the documents. Now go to setting up a Google account.
Then go to wallet.google.com/manage . Add a card if you have not added it.
I want to note that the address of the payment card should be like that of an intermediary. That is, the address must be in the United States.
And add the home address, it must also be in the United States.
After these actions, you need to try to buy applications. This is to confirm your account. You will be charged $ 1, but in a month they will be returned.
Now that we have done everything, you can go on to buy a phone. Go to the purchase page. And add to cart.
Then select Checkout . After some waiting, a page on the successful execution of the order will appear.
Your purchase should appear in the transaction.
And on mail the notification on successful purchase will fall.
A couple of days later, the letter again falls to the post office, but with the track number. You can track your order on the UPS website. And do not forget to inform the intermediary that you are waiting for the parcel.
After the parcel arrives at the warehouse, the operators will add it to the site and you will be able to collect the parcel. If you send by Shopfans-Express method, then in order to go through the parcel of customs, we must provide proof of payment and invoices from the stores, where the cost is specified, including shipping to the US, and a bank statement. And of course fill out the declaration.

What to write in the declaration? - the name of the smartphone and its value in Google Play.
Then, when you have filled out all the items and attached documents, you can choose a delivery method, add insurance (if needed) and pay for the order. After that, the parcel will receive the status of "sent".

Remove the top of the box and see the phone itself. The screen and back cover are protected by films. The film protecting the display is opaque. Therefore, to leave it, before buying a normal film under the device, will not work.

The body is made of polycarbonate. This is not something special, but just one type of plastic. Due to changes in the quality and texture of the coating, a little less scratches will now be visible. The gap between the lid and the case is my fault, I did not completely close it.

The back cover fits snugly to the case and holds on several latches, but it is easy to remove. For this there is a special place where you need to pry with your fingernail.
A removable lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery with a capacity of 2600 mAh, 3.8 V, 9.88 Wh (with built-in NFC antenna) is installed.
There are slots for microSIM and microSD.
Under the battery, again, different serial numbers. And the information that the device comes from Google.

Comparison of dimensions with Nexus 4. S4 (69.8x136.6x7.9 mm), Nexus 4 (68.7x133.9x9.1 mm). Compared with the flagship of LG, the smartphone is thinner, slightly longer and wider. But this is not very noticeable.

For many, a 5-inch smartphone can be inconvenient. But in the case of the Galaxy S4, I do not think this statement is correct. The device is light and small, the frame is thin, so it is easy to reach with your thumb. When I went to the subway, I saw that a large number of people read from the screen of a smartphone. Is it convenient to read with 4 inch displays? IMHO, no. If you already read from the screen of the smartphone and do not want to buy extra. reading devices, take care of your eyes, read at least on a larger display.
Only a white color version of the device is sold on Google Play. All accessories without problems come from the usual model.
Koreans installed the Super AMOLED screen with a Full HD resolution of 1920 × 1080 and a density of up to 441 ppi in the new flagship. A large 5-inch display with a thin frame looks pretty impressive, and most importantly - the dimensions of the device because of this, not much increased.
Visually, S4 Google Edition pleases with contrast and color reproduction. There is an automatic brightness control, which provides additional savings in battery capacity.
The screen is very good: the brightness is enough for the eyes, there is no looseness at this resolution, of course, all the smallest elements are clearly drawn.
The viewing angles are wide, there are no color inversions.
The sensory layer is capacitive, the sensitivity is very high. Fulfills up to 10 simultaneous touches. The behavior of the screen of the Samsung S4 in the sun also pleases. The information remains readable.
In general, the screen should please most users. I have no complaints about him.
Camera Samsung Galaxy S4 is excellent. And the firmware from Google did not prevent her from making high-quality pictures.

With the standard Android interface, I somehow feel more comfortable using the device. There are no gurgles, no need to suffer with the removal of standard extra applications.

In real life, the smartphone certainly works very smoothly, there is no reproach. In games, there are no jams or crashes. RAM is enough for a lot of running applications. And what kind of brakes can we talk about with such a filling?
Samsung Galaxy S4 is definitely one of the leaders in the flagship line. And with the firmware from Google, the device works even faster. It should be noted that small manufacturers have fewer prospects for obtaining an update of the existing software for the acquired smartphone. Buying a device with the addition of Google Edition, you can at least be sure that the updates of the Android OS are timely received.
And to be honest from myself - I really liked the device. Despite the design, Samsung did manage to make a good, non-bulky device with a great screen and features. By the way, the device is immediately unlocked for any operators (including Russian ones). You can also unlock the bootloader via fastboot. The procedure is the same as on Nexus 4. And the TWRP team has already released Recovery under the device.
