CNet, citing its sources in the industry, reports that the US authorities have requested all user passwords from the largest Internet companies in the country, as well as information about the password encryption process itself - for example, details of the pickling algorithm, as well as the hash salt itself.
')
A Microsoft spokesman declined to say directly whether they had received a request for the release of this information, but to a direct question about whether MS would reveal passwords, salts, or details of the password encryption process, he answered: “No, and I can’t imagine the circumstances in which we would do it. " One of the sources told CNet that he had seen the facsimile of the request with his own eyes and that they “refused” [to carry it out] (“We push back”).

Google and Yahoo acted in a similar way, and refused to confirm or deny the fact of receiving such claims. Apple, AOL, Facebook and several other companies did not comment on the situation in principle.
