Computer vision helps to search for lost dogs.

According to statistics , only 15% of lost dogs return home due to the fact that their owners were not too lazy to implant a dog RFID chip with contact information or put this information on the collar. Other animals, if they can be identified, then only by a photo or a verbal description. San Francisco's Finding rover has created a free mobile app that uses face recognition technology to increase the chances of finding a missing pet.

The application is divided into two parts - if you are the owner of the dog, you will need to upload a photo of the muzzle of the lost animal into the application. It is even better if you take such a photo in advance, just in case - it is much faster and cheaper than implanting a chip or making a collar with contact details. If you find the missing dog, you want to return it to the owners, but you do not know how to find them - you can take a picture of it, and if its owner used the application, and there is a photo of his dog in the database, the algorithm will find all the necessary information by comparing both images.

So far, the Finding rover application is available only for iOS. The company plans for the near future - the version for Android and the recognition of the muzzle of not only dogs, but also cats.
