Today, under the impression of a heated discussion on Habrahabr, I went to the site “Consultant” and came across such a “fun” message: “Unsupported web browser. To work in the systems ConsultantPlus: Internet requires a web browser Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher running Microsoft Windows 95/98 / Me / NT / 2000 / XP. Please install it from here. ”And the download link for“ donkey ”.
No disguises helped, and that’s not the point. My first thought was: “wow, you should sue for such things for forcing to buy expensive commercial software - MS Windows”. Plus, these "feints" put clear obstacles to the wider distribution of the same browser Opera or Firefox. Here they are, the grimaces of monopoly. So, alternative browsers are doomed to a miserable existence in the shadow of a giant? Then I pondered a little on the topic and here are some conclusions.
Today the share of IE browser in RuNet is about 65% . Thus, the Consultant company deliberately refuses almost a third of its users. Nonweak such marketing. Further, given the current trends, it can be predicted that by the end of 2008, the share of IE will drop to 50-55%, i.e. already half of the clients of the Consultant will not be able to use their service. There is a tendency to reduce the client base of the company "Consultant". And what happens? And it turns out that the lack of support for other browsers other than IE, signs the verdict not by this very alternative browser, but by the Consultant company itself!
Well, then it really does not make sense to sue: such offices themselves will die out, they do not even need to be customized. Unless, of course, will not be corrected in a timely manner.

In general, I would have at least deprived of their marketers of bonuses: every month a large part of the client base is lost due to them, but they don’t sleep in spirit, only millions invest in advertising ...
