The logical continuation of the line of "long-playing" smartphones was the release of the Lenovo P780. This device is positioned as a development of the previous model Lenovo P770 with significant differences in hardware

â–ş Appearance and equipment
Lenovo's branded box with a two-tier design: on top of the phone, on the bottom - accessories.

')
A complete set of accessories: USB cable, charger, OTG cable, headphones.

Headphones with logo:

2A charger:

Using the OTG cable, you can not only connect flash drives, but also charge other devices:

The phone itself looks massive:

If you have a medium-sized hand, holding the phone will not be very convenient, as it is rather wide:

Despite the large battery, the phone does not look thick:

Behind something reminiscent of the flagship Lenovo K900:

Rear 8MP camera with flash:

Hands-free speaker:

The sound is quite loud, but at full volume it may wheeze a little.
Above there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, under a small protective cover - microUSB, as well as a power button. To place the power button on top of a 5-inch smartphone was not the best solution - reaching it while holding the phone with one hand is difficult.

The volume rocker is on the right:

In order to insert a SIM card or microSD memory card, you do not need to remove the entire back panel. It is only necessary to remove the metal insert:

The battery is sealed and sealed with screws along the perimeter. In fact, it is removable, but the manufacturer decided to deprive us of the pleasure to remove it every time we need to change the SIM card or memory card. Capacity - 4000 mAh.

Two slots for SIM cards: the first can work in 2G and 3G networks, the second - only 2G.
In the slot for microSD cards there is a small red Reset button.

SIM card settings are carried out in the "SIM Management" menu and provide an opportunity to set a default SIM card for various actions: calls, SMS, Internet, and roaming behavior.

â–ş Screen
The Lenovo P780 is equipped with a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1280x720. Made by technology IPS. Whether the technology is used OGS (one-glass-solution), I find it difficult to answer. But most likely not - as there is a slight unevenness of the backlight on the screen above and on the screen. Before that, I had the opportunity to use ZTE V987 smartphones, as well as Jiayu G4 - they clearly show that the screen is made using OGS technology, when the glass and touchscreen are a single whole, without an air gap between them.
The screen is bright, with good color reproduction, but a slight unevenness of the backlight and the tint in blue when the smartphone is tilted to the left slightly spoil the overall impression.
Due to the large battery and solid appearance, this phone can be classified as a “business phone” class, and I would like to see a higher level on it.

According to information from the manufacturer, the screen is covered with protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass 2.

â–ş Sound
The P780 has 2 microphones that are required for effective noise cancellation. Also used proprietary development called SmartSound, which is designed to improve sound quality. And I must say that it works well: the interlocutor notes excellent audibility and the absence of extraneous noise. The speaker is also good - the audibility is excellent, the volume is good and there are no different crackles and noises.
â–ş Wifi
Wifi signal level is good, near the router the arrow Wifi Analyzer is in the green zone, after 2 walls the arrow is stable in the yellow zone:

â–ş GPS
GPS satellites are caught in 2-3 minutes from a cold start. Hot start - up to 30 seconds. From a nice addition to the navigation - built-in compass.

â–ş Camera
The rear camera resolution is 8MP camera, but it has little effect on the quality of the pictures. The color rendition obviously suffers and the pictures are pale:

â–ş Browsing the Web
Smartphone copes with browsing pages. Scrolling and zooming are smooth, and the page opening time is limited only by the speed of your Internet connection.

â–ş Games
It seems to me that playing heavy 3D games on the phone is not very convenient. I prefer either platformers:

or logic games:

Rarely when it comes to 3D games:

But the power of MTK6589 is enough for heavier games.
â–ş Software
Android 4.2.1 is preinstalled with Lenovo's proprietary launcher.

You can not just change the themes one for another, but also make fine adjustments to the set of parameters:

Settings are on 3 tabs.
The first one has quick access to frequently used settings, the third one has a full list of settings:

On the second, there are intelligent settings that react to changing the location of the phone:

Separately, you can configure notifications for each application, change notification display parameters, as well as actions when entering the Wifi action range:

Lenovo's branded dialer called Idea Friends allows you to quickly search for contacts by typing the name into numbers (the numbers correspond to a set of Russian or English letters) and also sort the contacts alphabetically:

It is possible to record the conversation "from the line."
Idea Friends is a center not only for making calls, editing and searching contacts, sending SMS, but also for backing up phonebook and SMS data.

Applications calculator, voice recorder, flashlight, also undergone cosmetic changes:

Office package KingOffice is preinstalled, which will help you create, view and edit files in popular formats .doc, .txt, .xls, .ppt.

Convenient help on the use of the Android OS. Only text is translated, images contain English text:

Lenovo's launcher is great for people who like to customize the phone “for themselves”, it can customize almost everything: from the appearance of desktops and icons to setting up system notifications and applications.
â–ş Performance
The P780 is built on a 28 nm Mediatek 6589 chip, which consists of a 4-core Cortex-A7 processor architecture with a frequency of up to 1.2 GHz and a PowerVR SGX544 video accelerator. The amount of permanent memory - 4GB, operational - 1GB. If it is not a problem to expand the permanent memory using microSD memory cards, then the RAM is quickly clogged with applications. With unloaded applications, the amount of RAM is about 500-550MB.
Let's look at the results of synthetic tests:
Antutu 3.3.2:

Quadrant:

Antutu and Quadrant show standardly good results for the MT6589 chip.
The result of the Vellamo HTML 5 processing speed test confirms fast processing of web pages:

Nenamark 2 with the result of 40fps gives hope for the launch of heavy 3D-games:

In general, platform performance is more than enough for everyday tasks.
â–ş work time
Installed proprietary utility that allows you to select energy saving plans. Their 4:
-Maximum
-Long
-Optimal
-User plan

Plans differ in a set of parameters that can be turned on or off (wifi, blueooth, calls, and more). The forecast of working time cannot be considered correct, since it is based on the results of continuous use of the phone in a particular energy saving plan.
The most commonly used custom energy saving plan:

A battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh assumes a long battery life.
In the Antutu battery tester test, the Lenovo P780 smartphone scored 1259 points:

And this is a great result! After a couple of charge-discharge cycles, the result in the test should raise to about 1500 points.
In practice, this involves about 3 days of active use. In my case, within 3 days, the screen was turned on for 12 hours, Wifi - for 8 hours, calls - about 20 minutes. The phone was used in the launch mode of tests, various programs and games.
â–ş Pros and cons

Good performance

Excellent sound quality when talking

4000mAh battery

Built-in compass

2 sim cards

The power button is on top and it is inconvenient to reach it

Screen and mid-range rear camera
Total Lenovo P780 - a very worthy replacement for the P770. Excellent performance, the presence of a compass, 2 SIM cards, a large battery and a proprietary launcher from Lenovo, in which you can configure almost everything.
