Firefox nebula

Astronomers have discovered the nebula in the shape of the Firefox logo

In the sky of the northern hemisphere there is a constellation, which consists of five bright stars in the northeast, located in the shape of the letter W. This is the constellation of Cassiopeia, and in it you can observe the Sharpless nebula 2-188, consisting of interstellar gas and dust.

Astronomers Travis Rector and Heidi Schweiker made an amazing photo using the Kitt Peak 4-meter telescope located in Arizona. Here you can see the image 4900x3800 px .

Their colleague, Phil Plait, looking at the image of this distant nebula, noticed that dust and gas clusters are arranged in a way that resembles a fox: curved in a semicircle and the tail touches the forehead, which is very similar to the logo of the popular FireFox browser. Of course, the similarity with the logo is due to the human factor - astronomers used two filters when building the image: one shows hydrogen (orange) and the other oxygen (blue).

Sharpless Planetary Nebula 2-188: discovered in 1951, the central star is 850 light-years from Earth. This nebula is quite unique due to its interaction with the interstellar medium. Planetary nebulae, as a rule, are symmetrical, but due to the motion of a star at a speed of 125 kilometers per second, observations show greater brightness in the direction in which the star moves and smaller in the opposite direction.
