Just a month ago, Intel introduced to the public a new, fourth generation of Intel Core processors called Haswell. Also at OMPUTEX 2013 were shown the first laptops running on a modern platform from Intel. The hero of this review is ASUS N750JV. Index N says that this device belongs to a series of multimedia laptops with top configurations, high-quality sound system and stylish design. The number 7 in the title means that we have a laptop with a 17-inch screen. As can be seen from the size, this device is a
desktop replacement class. Let's take a closer look at this entertaining laptop.

Equipment
The box in which the laptop comes in is surprising in its size. After tablets and ultrabooks such dimensions seem to be too large, although even before all laptops were in bulky packaging.

The box is framed in the usual ASUS style: matte printing with a laptop image.

')
Almost the entire area inside is occupied by the laptop itself, laid in a cloth envelope.

On the right is a small niche for the charger and a remote subwoofer.

The charger with a matte finish and glossy ends has impressive dimensions. A voltage of 19V and a current of 6.32A are as much as 120 W!

Appearance
Unlike last year's model, the design of the laptop has changed. ASUS N750JV has an impressive size and weight of 3.2 kg. The design of the notebook alternates in 2 colors: the cover and the bottom of a dark brown color, and the case itself is silver. The design of the body is completely metal.
The lid is made of brushed aluminum, and although some of the fingerprints remain on it, they are not so noticeable and are erased quite simply. The center has an engraved ASUS logo, highlighted from the inside.

The bottom of the notebook is a solid metal part.

In the middle is the ventilation grille, in the front part there is a perforation for the speakers.

Another ventilation grate is located between the casing and the screen.

The mounting design is simple: just unscrew the screws around the perimeter and get access to the insides of the laptop.
The thickness of the case at the edges is somewhat smaller, which makes it convenient to take the laptop from the table and visually makes the laptop thinner. The ribs around the perimeter of the body are smoothed with a small bevel.

The screen is mounted using one large hinge and has a opening angle of 120 degrees. The hinge has a tight turn, which allows you to lock the screen in any position. In the closed position, the laptop lid is held on magnets. Engineers have perfectly calculated the effort, and the laptop lid is quietly opened with one hand, without the need to hold the case.
Interfaces
The main connectors are on the left end of the laptop. The first is the power connector; then a gigabit RJ45 for connecting to the network, it has a flip cover, which allowed to reduce the size of the connector. Next come HDMI and miniDP connectors for connecting a monitor and a TV, two USB 3.0 with support for charging in the off state, and an SDXC card reader (SD / MMC / MS / MS Pro).

On the front side there are LED indicators of beautiful white color.

The right side is occupied by the Kensington lock; 2.5 mm output for the included subwoofer; as well as the Blu-Ray combo drive, which is just useful for watching movies.

Then there are two more USB 3.0 connectors, a microphone input and a headphone jack with S / PDIF support.

Sound
One of the great advantages of the N series is the high-quality sound. ASUS N750JV was no exception and got a great sound subsystem. By tradition, the laptop is certified by Bang & Olufsen - a Danish company specializing in the production of hi-end audio and video equipment.

It implements the technology developed by ASUS experts SonicMaster Premium, representing a set of hardware and software tools to improve sound quality. A special "highlight" is an external subwoofer, which is used for high-quality transmission of low frequencies.

The bundle also includes the software “Waves MAXXAudio”, which allows you to fine-tune the sound, but I personally do not see much sense in this. The sound changes insignificantly.

Speakers in the amount of four pieces hidden under the perforations in front of the case. Overall, the sound for the laptop is excellent.

The maximum volume is pleasantly surprising, and the quality does not suffer at all. At the moment this is a laptop with the best sound quality that I have met.
Screen and Camera
The screen has a diagonal of 17.3 inches. It is worth noting that the 15-inch version, the N550JV, will also be on sale. At first, the screen size seemed unusually large, but you quickly get used to the good. Perhaps this is the most optimal screen size for home and office. The resolution is 1920 by 1080 pixels, the number of dots per inch is 130. Unfortunately, not the IPS matrix is used, but, in fairness, I haven’t yet seen a 17-inch laptop with an IPS-matrix. The screen uses EMW technology, thanks to which the viewing angles are horizontally 150 degrees, and vertically 120 degrees.

One of the significant advantages of the screen - a matte anti-reflective coating. Above the screen is a HD camera with a resolution of 2 megapixels, next to which is a white work indicator. Along the edges of the camera are two noise-canceling microphones.

Input Devices
Before us is the usual island full-size keyboard with a separate digital section. The keys are plastic, exactly the same "aluminum" color as the case itself.

The keyboard has a standard set of keys. On the one hand, such minimalism and simplicity pleases the eye, on the other - there are users who like various additional keys, such as adjusting the sound and controlling the media player.

In general, the keyboard is comfortable, thanks to the large backing under the wrists, it is convenient to type. The movement of the keys, equipped with backlight, small, with tactile feedback.

All the characters on the keys are laser engraved and glow in the dark.

The backlight can be turned off, there are three levels of brightness.

Below the keyboard is an impressively sized touchpad. The panel has exactly the same color as the case, and fits perfectly into the overall design. The dimensions of the touchpad are 10.5 by 7.5 cm. It has a rough, pleasant to the touch surface.

You can click the "left mouse button" on the entire area of the touchpad. In the lower right part, you can make a "right click", as well as "click" with two fingers. Naturally, MultiTouch and all Windows 8 gestures are supported: start, application switching, swipe, etc.
The power button has a white backlight.

Symmetrically on the other hand, there is a button to which you can assign a quick launch of applications.

Performance
ASUS N750JV is one of the first laptops running on Intel's new Haswell processor. According to Intel's
Tik-Tak strategy, the Haswell processor is the “Tac”. Such processors differ markedly from the previous generation in their performance. The current fourth generation Intel Core consumes up to 50% less energy when watching videos. In general, the speed of the laptop pleases; Thanks to the use of hybrid teleology technology HDD + SDD, the laptop turns on very quickly. A full load from the off state takes less than 10 seconds. Exit from sleep mode for about 2 seconds, and in sleep mode, the laptop can last for one month on one battery charge. At high load, the cooler starts working. You can't call it quiet, after all, the laptop is equipped with a powerful processor and video card. Only the top of the laptop, above the keyboard, is heated. Hot air is blown from behind.

The discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics card with 4GB of memory shows
good gaming performance .

The new built-in graphics card provides a two-fold increase in performance in comparison with the Ivy Bridge. For the first time, the integrated video from Intel got its name - Iris.

In total, the system has three drives, two HDDs and one SSD.

HDD disk speed tests with CrystalDiskMark.

Finally, Windows performance evaluation.

Battery and working time
Capacity of the built-in battery is 6260 mAh. Full charge takes 2.5 hours. Due to the compact design of the laptop from the removable battery had to be abandoned.
When viewing FullHD-video with an average brightness, the laptop lasted 4 hours.
With a minimum screen brightness and surfing the Internet, the operation time was 6 hours.
If you turn off the network, set the minimum brightness, turn on the energy-saving profile and limit your work to office applications, you can reach 7 hours.

Conclusion
The new laptop from ASUS will be a great helper at home and in the office. High performance of the processor and video card can quite replace the home computer and allow you to play modern games. The presence of a large and high-quality screen in conjunction with Blue Ray-drive and good sound will allow you to deploy a compact multimedia center in almost any place. With this laptop is convenient to work in the office, anti-glare layer extinguishes extraneous sources of light in the reflection.
The laptop will soon be on sale, the expected price of 55 000 p.
