Adobe has released version 3.0 of the open-source application development framework PhoneGap, writes TechCrunch. PhoneGap allows you to write cross-platform mobile applications in HTML5, CSS and JavaScript.

The new version of PhoneGap presents a new modular architecture, which, according to the company, "will allow your application to remain small and fast." Developers can simply select the desired API, after which the necessary plugins will be automatically installed.

In this release, Adobe also added two new APIs: InAppBrowser to display web pages in the application and the new Globalization API to check the user's language and time zone.

Adobe has combined the command line tools for working with PhoneGap across multiple platforms. Previously, developers had to learn new dictionaries when they switched between platforms, but now the company says that this is the past.

Adobe tools are integrated with PhoneGap Build - the company's cloud service for compiling PhoneGap projects - so you don’t even need to install the native SDK platform for compiling applications. A few days ago, Adobe also added custom plugin support to PhoneGap Build.

It is worth noting that most of the work was done by the participants of the open project Apache Cordova , on which the PhoneGap project is based, and which also released version 3.0 of its framework. For example, two new APIs in PhoneGap have long been part of the Cordova project.

In the future, Adobe intends to add support for Firefox OS and Ubuntu to PhoneGap. Now developers are working on the transition to iOS 7.
